The relationship of Christians to the government has been a vital and controversial issue from the start of the Christian age. Even from the beginning of Christ’s ministry, many - in fact, most - of his disciples were under the false impression that he had come to overthrow the oppressive Roman government and establish a physical kingdom. There are a variety of false doctrines today that embody the same misunderstanding.
